Arsenal’s star scorer Alexis Sanchez won’t be with the club for most of the preseason and possibly the start of the Premier League regular season after representing Chile in the Copa America.
According to The Telegraph, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger plans to give Sanchez an extra three weeks of rest after leading his country to a win over Argentina in the 2015 Copa America. As a result, Sanchez won’t report to Gunners camp until the end of July – just one week before the club’s Community Shield match against Chelsea and two weeks before the start of the regular season – and Wenger does not appear inclined to rush Sanchez back to the field before he is rested.
Sanchez, who led Arsenal with 16 league goals and 25 overall goals last season, played in all six games for Chile – the 2015 Copa America host nation – and led his country to its first ever Championship title after beating Argentina in a 4-1 shootout following a 0-0 draw. The Arsenal superstar kicked the game-sealing field goal to clinch Chile’s win.
