Mayweather is the bookmakers’ favourite to win the welterweight clash with three world titles on the line, although his rival remains the fans favourite and isn’t short of supporters hoping he is able to upset the odds.
Both men have had a constant stream of visitors during training camp to wish them well, but that won’t have distracted them too much from what will be the biggest night in boxing history.
‘Pac-Man’ in particular hasn’t been shy in sharing images on social media as people drop in at the Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles as trainer Freddie Roach continued preparations with him.
However, the majority of the predictions side with Mayweather and the unbeaten American superstar will be confident in his ability of dealing with the threat that his opponent will bring to the ring this weekend.
ESPN experts Teddy Atlas and Dan Rafael differed in their opinions as the former went with a Pacquiao win by split decision while Rafael opted to go with a Mayweather win on points.
Looking at the respective lists compiled by ESPN, ‘Money’ has the backing of respected former and current fighters such as Shane Mosley, Ricky Hatton, Evander Holyfield, Amir Khan, Juan Manuel Marquez and British stars such as James DeGale and Kell Brook.
Joe Calzaghe, Paulie Malignaggi, Carl Froch and Paul Smith Jr have all sided with the 38-year-old too, and so he undoubtedly boasts a huge list of backers who know their boxing.
In addition, his celebrity backing is equally as strong with the likes of Flo Rida, Jamie Foxx, Ludacris, Shaquille O’Neal and Chris Rock all in his corner on Saturday.
On the other side of the ring, Pacquiao is backed by Miguel Cotto, Oscar De La Hoya, George Foreman, Roy Jones Jr, Mike Tyson, Johnny Nelson and Ronda Rousey. Further, Mark Wahlberg and Michael Rapaport are amongst the celebrity names to pin their flag in the Filipino’s corner.
Saturday night will see a conflict of personalities, styles and everything in between as Mayweather and Pacquiao settle the question over who the pound-for-pound king is. With such a split in the boxing world, it is almost time for the questions to finally be answered.
