Gayle, who averages an impressive 42.21 in domestic T20 cricket, will link up with the Renegades when the season commences in December.
The power-hitter is likely to form an opening partnership with Aaron Finch and says he can’t wait to help push the Renegades into the finals this upcoming season.
“It’s exciting to be coming to the Melbourne Renegades in the sporting capital of Australia. I’m looking forward to seeing the fans, getting to know the city a little more and helping the team into the finals in BBL 05,” Gayle said in a club statement.
“The club has put together a really solid list of players and with a new coach, we’re looking at a big summer at Etihad Stadium.”
Renegades head coach David Saker said the club was thrilled to land the signature of one of the world’s most damaging batsman.
“Chris’s abilities and experience goes without saying. He has tremendous skills both as an explosive T20 batsman but also as that genuine all-rounder you need,” Saker said.
“He’s someone who can inspire the squad, particularly among our batsmen, with his confidence and his ability to back himself and flick the switch when the time is right.”
Gayle is expected to be available for the entirety of the 2015/16 Big Bash League season.
