Hilfenhaus, who plays under new Stars coach Stephen Fleming at the Chennai Super Kings, featured for the Hurricanes in the three previous seasons of the Big Bash League.
“We’re very pleased to have contracted a bowler of Ben’s calibre with the Stars. His ability to strike with the new ball as well as his versatility later in the innings will be vital for the Stars this season,” Fleming said in a club statement.
Hilfenhaus says he is looking forward to joining the Stars’ bowling lineup, but was unsure of his exact role as of yet.
I’ve played against all the guys before, so it will be good to finally have them on my side,” Hilfenhaus said.
“The bowling line-up is pretty strong and they seem to have all bases covered so I’m looking forward to working with them and carving out a role depending on what the coach and captain want from me.”
Hilfenhaus could be joined at the Stars by current Australia captain Michael Clarke, with club president Eddie McGuire confirming the franchise is currently in talks with the 33-year-old.
