It was 16-16 with a minute to go and Cronk stepped forward to seal the win. It was a terrific result for the Storm and a very tough one to swallow for the Roosters.
Melbourne were first on the board with a brilliant try, Marika Korobiete flying through the air.
The Roosters answered quickly, James Maloney setting up Mitchell Ambusson.
They then knocked over a few penalties, but Felise Kafausi tied things up at 10-10.
It remained even at half-time and deep into the second half. Blake Green forced his way over but just couldn’t get the ball down.
Then it was Melbourne’s turn to demonstrate some excellent defence, stopping a try on their right wing.
It was still 10-10 as full-time approached. Both teams were pushing hard for a winner.
Cameron Smith and Will Chambers combined to send the Storm in front by six points with just six minutes left. It looked like the match-winner.
But there was time for a bit of brilliance from James Maloney and Daniel Tupou.
Tupou scored in the corner and then Maloney had the pressure kick from the sideline. He didn’t miss and his conversion moved the score back to 16-16 with three minutes on the clock.
But the Storm had one more trick up their sleave. Cronk slotted a field goal and Melbourne had the win.
A frenetic finish to the game and a heart-breaking end for the Roosters.
