The three wonderful attackers have made the shortlist for the prestigious award…
UEFA has announced that its shortlist for the Best Player in Europe award has been cut to a final three.
The winner is set to be announced on August 29 in Monaco, following the draw for the Champions League groups stages.
Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo, and Bayern Munich’s Franck Ribery are the chosen three, and journalists will live vote on the night of the 29th to determine a winner.
All three have enjoyed brilliant years, with Ribery’s Bayern team defeating all before them – winning the treble. Although Ribery is less coveted than Messi and Ronaldo, his side’s magnificent achievement, at which he has was at the forefront, could see him as favourite to take home the gong.
Messi’s Barcelona side did enjoy a brilliant La Liga season, earning a record 100 points. The Argentine also scored 46 goals, and earned a barrage of superlatives on a weekly basis. Ronaldo’s Madrid side didn’t win a major competition, but the player did finish as top scorer in the Champions League in what was a hugely impressive season on a personal level.
It is the third year the award will be given, having previously been won by Messi himself, and his Barcelona teammate Andres Iniesta.
