Former Liverpool and Aston Villa star and current pundit Stan Collymore reckons Arsenal must give Mesut Ozil a lengthy rest, or risk losing the German superstar in the summer, he wrote in his column for the Mirror.
The £42m summer signing was dropped this weekend for the easy 4-1 victory over Sunderland, following his feeble penalty miss in the Champions League tie against Bayern Munich last Wednesday.
Collymore though thinks Ozil has been overplayed, and that the physical demands of English football are already taking their toll on him.
Collymore wrote:
“The Premier League’s physical demands have caught up with him, and at this rate he could end his first season thinking ‘Sod this, it’s too hard. I’m outta here.’
If Arsene Wenger does not take the decision to rest his £42m luxury player for a prolonged break then there is a very real chance he will be clapped out and written off by the end of the season.
At which point I fear he may even want to leave.”
It seems pretty infeasible that Ozil will leave Arsenal in the summer, regardless of whether his poor form continues or not.
Arsenal smashed their transfer record to bring him to the Emirates, and he showed more than enough signs before Christmas that he has tall the qualities expected of a world-class playmaker.
Arsene Wenger has backed the 25-year-old countless times in the press, and Ozil himself has claimed on many occasions how dedicated he is to the Arsenal cause…
However, Collymore might have have a point that the German could benefit from a week or two out of the side, as his confidence is currently very low.
