Sherwood had been widely expected to be named the new manage,r but it is thought both parties disagreed over strategies for next season and contract demands.
With only five months of experience as a manager, Sherwood was not thought to be Tony Fernandes’ preferred choice, as he was unconvinced with his lack of work.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager and player was apparently QPR director of football, Les Ferdinand’s, favoured option but Sherwood demanded a £3 million contract and was unsure about the strategy going into next season, with relegation a possibility and many key players out of contract.
Think I have got my dream manager. Not what anyone thinks. Take a while. Still a bit to go but I’m very happy. Press all wrong.

Former Swansea boss Michael Laudrup is currently the manager of Qatari side Lekhwiya after his sacking from the Welsh side, even though he had won the Capital One Cup in his maiden season. It is thought the breakdown of relationships between players and himself were at the heart of his dismissal.
There is still the possibility that current caretaker manager Chris Ramsey could be left in charge for the rest of the season, should QPR’s mystery target want to wait until the Premier League status is secured.
Ramsey grabbed QPR’s first away win of the season on Tuesday night as his side overcame Sunderland 2-0 at the Stadium of Light with Leroy Fer and Bobby Zamora grabbing the goals.
