Defensive end Michael Sam is no longer on an NFL roster, but he remains one of the biggest names in football due to being the first openly gay player to be drafted by a team.

However, Sam claims that there are many other NFL players who have yet to come out, and have even told him secretly about their orientation.
“I am not the only gay person in the NFL. I’m just saying there is a lot of us. I respect the players that did reach out to me and had the courage to tell me that they were also gay, but they do not have the same courage as I do to come out before I even played a down in the NFL,” Sam said to ESPN.
The defensive end was able to draw attention from NFL scouts after winning SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors with Missouri, as he came up with 11.5 sacks.
Sam’s NFL journey began with the St. Louis Rams, who drafted him in the seventh round before cutting him after the preseason due to having a stacked defensive line.
The Dallas Cowboys eventually picked him up and signed him to their practice squad, but he was unable to remain with the team.
His 40 time has not helped his attempt to make a comeback as he ran a 4.99.
