Just days after the departure of Dario Vidsic to the Swiss Bundesliga, Josep Gombau has secured a ready made replacement.
After missing out on the start of FC Utrecht’s campaign, winger Michael Zullo has opted for a return to the A-League with the hope of securing first team football.
The 24-year-old former Brisbane Roar player has signed a year long loan with Adelaide United.
The Reds General Manager of Football Operations Michael Petrillo, was pleased the club had made the acquisition of a player with such versatility.
Speaking to Football Australia he said: “Michael is exactly the type of left sided player we were after. As soon as Josep had the details and saw the vision provided he was positive that Michael was exactly what he needed in that role.
“He’s quick, technically very good, can get forward and has a great engine. We are also sure that he will adapt quickly given his playing experience at FC Utrecht and previously at Brisbane Roar.
“He will add more balance to the squad and in our discussions with him he has been extremely enthusiastic about joining us.”
Zullo has 10 international appearances to his name and like any other self respecting Socceroo has one eye on Brazil 2014.
Speaking Football Australia Zullo said: ” want to be at a club again where I could be a first eleven player and play regular football.
“Obviously with an eye on the World Cup next year as well, I want to try and get as many games under my belt this season as I can and push a case to be part of the Socceroos.”
