Offensive lineman next logical step for an extension as team looks to long-term success.
After signing Anthony Davis to a long-term extension last week, the 49ers next step in looking to build on their long-term future would be to sign offensive guard Mike Iupati to a multiple year contract.

As the 49ers aim to keep the bulk of their young talent for as long as possible, the team look set to make Mike Iupati the next player to earn a lucrative long-term deal with the team.
The 25-year old has developed himself into one of the best all-round offensive guards in the league, and is generally considered the main reason behind the success of the San Francisco run game, due to his sheer size and strength on the line.
Shoring up the offensive line would be a good way to help the long term future of the entire offence for the 49ers, as providing a safe environment for young Quarterback Colin Kaepernick to work in will be a great help to his confidence.
Iupati would command a salary close to $45m over a fiver year period, which could put the team under some strain when it comes to re-signing the like of play-maker Michael Crabtree and inevitably Colin Kaepernick, who will likely be asking for near $100m for his next contract extension.
The 49ers are making the right choice by looking to sign players now, rather than letting their reputation grow, and so give them the ability to command more money. So long as this strategy works out, the future could be very bright for San Francisco.
