Minnesota Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer admitted there is a strong chance that rookie linebacker Anthony Barr will start right away.
The Minnesota Vikings selected linebacker Anthony Barr in the first round of the draft, and he is expected to make an immediate impact on the Vikings defense that experienced woes last season.
Barr registered 23.5 sacks and 41.5 tackles for loss in his final two seasons at UCLA, so the Vikings will count on him to boost the pass rush.
Head coach Mike Zimmer has been pleased with Barr’s performance so far, and he went as far to say that the linebacker may start the season opener. “I would have said that after the first minicamp,” the first-year head coach said.
Zimmer was hired by the Vikings to fix their defense, and he has a proven track as the Bengals’ defensive coordinator. They finished in the top 10 in scoring and total defense the past three seasons.
If Barr lives up to expectations, he will immediately improve the Vikings defense and possibly make the team a dark horse playoff contender. Things can only improve for a defense that finished last in scoring defense and 31st in total defense.
