Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer’s first victory as a head coach was short lived as one of his key free agent pickups was injured by a stray bullet at a Minnesota bar.
Minnesota Vikings DT Linval Joseph was shot outside a Minneapolis bar on Saturday morning following a 10-6 victory over the Oakland Raiders the night before.
In a statement by the team, the Vikings stated that Joseph was an innocent bystander during a shooting at 400 Soundbar in Minneapolis early Saturday morning. Joseph was apparently hit in the calf with a stray bullet, but was treated and released from the hospital.
“The entire Vikings organization is extremely thankful that Linval was not seriously hurt, and our thoughts are with all of the victims of this shooting,” the statement said. “The team will defer any further comment to the Minneapolis Police Department during its ongoing investigation.”
Joseph was signed by the Vikings as a free agent this past offseason after four seasons with the New York Giants. He started 46 games and recorded 9.0 sacks in the last three years, earning him a five-year, $31.5 million contract.
