Vikings QB Matt Cassel is fighting off a furious attempt by rookie Teddy Bridgewater to claim the starting job.
The Minnesota Vikings travel to Kansas City for a preseason matchup against the Chiefs in Week 3 of the NFL preseason.
The Chiefs have all of their positions set, with Pro Bowlers and All-Pro selections at just about every position on the offense and defense. While the defense has struggled in the preseason, allowing 67 points in two games, there is no reason to suggest at this time that the team will be making any adjustments away from the stellar roster they have. QB Alex Smith and RB Jamaal Charles lead the offensive attack and will likely play the first half plus some of third quarter. The defense which has 4 Pro Bowlers in the front seven will also see significant playing time.
The Vikings are in a precarious situation at QB. Matt Cassel is the starter for the game, but rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater is making a hard push for the starting job. Head coach Mike Zimmer has not announced a Week 1 starter for the regular season, but it may be safe to say that if Cassel performs well he will be named the team’s starter.
However, the QB situation for the Vikings becomes much murkier if Cassel struggles with the first-team offense and Bridgewater thrives with the second-team offense.
Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs – The Chiefs will be playing most of their starters while the Vikings will likely be resting Adrian Peterson again.
