Australia to be without their star fast-bowler for key series.
Cricket Australia’s National Selection Panel has announced they are sending in-form fast bowler Mitchell Johnson home after their Test series win in South Africa.
With the Twenty20 series against the Proteas starting this Sunday, Cricket Australia said Johnson’s place in the squad will be taken by all-rounder Moises Henriques.
Australian coach Darren Lehmann said it was more about managing Johnson’s workload rather than any form of punishment or potential injury.
“Mitch has had a very long summer and we think he will benefit from returning home for a few days of rest with his family where he can freshen up,” Lehmann said.
“He will link back up with the squad in Bangladesh ahead the ICC World Twenty20.”
With Johnson on his way home, it’s a good a time as any to reminisce on what has been an incredible summer for the big left-arm quick.
Across eight Test matches (five against England and three against South Africa) Johnson picked up a staggering 59 wickets at an average of 15.24.
