USA international set to return home.
Seattle Sounders are closing in on the signing of Tottenham forward Clint Dempsey, according to ESPNFC.com.
The MLS outfit restructured the contract of veteran Shalrie Joseph on Thursday, opening up a designated player spot in their squad.
If returns to the US, Dempsey will join former Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins and Mauro Rosales as the high-earning DPs in the Sounders’ squad.
Sounders head-coach Sigi Schmid refused to confirm the report, telling Seattle’s KJR 950 AM radio that “right now there’s nothing that’s nailed down and concrete.”
Dempsey, 30, joined Spurs from Fulham in a £6m deadline day deal last summer, and scored seven Premier League goals in 29 games last term, including two in two matches against champions Manchester United, including a last minute equaliser at White Hart Lane.
