Schneiderlin has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, but it’s believed Southampton are playing hard ball over a transfer fee.
The 25-year-old, who has also been the subject of transfer speculation from Arsenal, went public in his desire to leave the Saints after saying he wanted to play Champions League football next season.
Former France boss Raymond Domenech says the only chance of breaking into France’s midfield for the EURO 2016 tournament is to make the move to the Red Devils.
“For him, Manchester United’s a good move,” Domenech is quoted as saying by The Sun.
“If he wants to be with the French team, he has to be in the Champions League. If he stays at Southampton, no luck.”
With the France’s incredible midfield depth, the much-maligned Domenech makes a compelling point.
The likes of Paul Pogba, Blaise Matuidi, Geoffrey Kondogbia and Maxime Gonalons all played Champions League football last season and Schneiderlin still has plenty to prove to break into Didier Deschamps’s squad.
