The Portuguese boss is a fan of Galatasaray’s Yilmaz.
Returning Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has made new striking options a priority and the 50-year-old has admitted his admiration for Galatasaray’s Burak Yilmaz.
The Blues have been linked with stars such as Edison Cavani and Luis Suarez, but Yilmaz would be available for much less than both those players at around £20m.
“Burak could play for any team in the world,” Mourinho was quoted in the Metro.
“He is world class.”
These comments from the boss at Stamford Bridge come shortly after Gala president Unal Aysal admitted that Yilmaz would be allowed to leave the Turkish champions if their valuation was met.
“If Burak wants to leave and our transfer demands are matched we could accept a deal,” said Aysal.
This is sure to stir things up in west London and across Europe as the highly anticipated return of the ‘Special One’ was also expected to be coupled with some high profile acquisitions.
Whilst talented youngsters Andre Schuerrle and Marcos Van Ginkel have been signed from Bayer Leverkusen and Vitesse Arnhem respectively, neither are quite the ‘world-class’ name Blues fans will be hoping for.
Both Cavani and Suarez would fit that bill but with 32 goals in 39 games last season it is hard to deny Yilmaz doesn’t also possess the quality to be a top Premier League striker.
The 27-year-old also managed eight of those strikes in the Champions League, putting the Turkey international level third with Lionel Messi and Thomas Muller, but with having played less matches.
