Cech could be on his way in order for Courtois to take the place between the sticks.
Jose Mourinho is prepared to sell current Chelsea No.1 Petr Cech in order to make way for incoming loan star Thibaut Courtois, according to Goal.
The younger goalkeeper has spent the past three years with Atletico Madrid and has been greatly impressing – to the point where many consider the 22-year-old to be among the finest stoppers in world football.
Courtois has already made it clear that he is not prepared to spend a fourth year away from Stamford Bridge on-loan however, and will therefore either have to be sold or given a chance in West London.
With the Belgium international’s growing reputation and the fact he is Cech’s junior by a decade, Mourinho is prepared to axe his long serving star in favour of a younger model.
This is a clear sign of just how highly the 51-year-old rates Courtois, as the current Blues ‘keeper has kept more Premier League clean-sheets than anyone else in history and is a hugely popular figure among the fans.
Yet the Belgian has been named La Liga goalkeeper of the season for the past two years and played a key part in Atleti winning the Spanish title and reaching their first ever Champions League final in 2013/14.
Courtois has two years remaining on his current deal at the Bridge, but is prepared to sign a new five-year contract if he is preferred ahead of Cech in the starting XI.
