The Daily Star are reporting that Liverpool’s move for Sevilla left back Alberto Moreno has hit the rocks, with the La Liga club demanding £18 million for one of Brendan Rodgers’ key summer targets.
Reports last week had suggested that a deal for the Europa League winning full back was close to completion, but the Reds are now believed to be unhappy with both the fee and the fact that Sevilla are demanding the majority of the payments to be made upfront.
The 21 year-old Spaniard is the latest in a long line of talented young footballers to emerge in La Liga, but despite his obvious class Liverpool are unwilling to be seen to overpay for an early target ahead of what promises to be a busy summer for a club preparing for their return to the Champions league.
Moreno emerged from the youth system at Sevilla and has gone on to make over 50 appearances for the club since making his debut, establishing himself as the first choice on the left hand side of defence.
Despite this, however, the £18m fee is a steep price to be asking for a player with comparatively little senior experience and who has only been given three caps by his nation so far and failed to get into the Spanish squad for the World Cup, with the versatile Cesar Azpilicueta preferred as cover for Jordi Alba.
