The Saints scaled new heights last season under Mauricio Pochettino, eventually finishing in eighth place, but new boss Koeman – who makes the trip to White Hart Lane to face his predecessor on Sunday – believes the South Coast club can improve again this term.
Reports in the Daily Mirror quote the Dutchman, who has expressed his belief that “nothing is impossible.” Southampton have not lost since the opening day of the season, when they were unlucky to be beaten 2-1 by Liverpool.
Full-back Nathaniel Clyne’s England call-up, and skipper Jose Fonte winning his first summons to international duty with Portugal, have topped off an excellent start to the season at St Mary’s, one that Koeman is keen to see continue.
“If we continue like this, we can finish in the top four. Normally, teams like Tottenham and Manchester United will be up there because they have enough good players – maybe too many for most clubs to compete. But if we keep the belief, spirit and ambition, nothing is impossible.”
