Uruguayan international expected to decide on future after Confederations Cup.
Napoli wing-back Christian Maggio says he hopes to talk to Edinson Cavani to try and convince him to stay in Naples.
The Uruguayan striker is expected to enter in talks with the Partenopei on his return from the Confederations Cup, with his future set to be decided in the next week or so.
The 26-year-old has been linked with a switch to either Real Madrid or the Premier League this summer, but no interested party has matched the €63m release clause fee set by the club.
Cavani has previously noted that he will meet with owner Aurelio De Laurentiis to clear the air, and discuss his transfer situation amid false speculation surrounding his future.
However, team-mate Christian Maggio hopes to speak to the prolific striker before then in a bid to convince him to stay in Naples.
“We have not spoken to each other recently. There has simply not been any time. But we will have a calm and relaxed talk about his situation,” Maggio told La Gazzetta dello Sport as quoted by Goal.com.
“I don’t know yet when we will meet, but we have always had a good relationship. I will try to convince him to stay put. It’s then up to him to make a decision, but I obviously want him to stay at Napoli.”
Cavani has stated that he will leave his future in the hands of the club, and isn’t against extending his stay in Naples where he is loved by the fans.
However, should a bid be made that matches the release clause fee, then it is expected he will leave Italy for a new challenge.
