Partenopei also still in the hunt for Fiorentina-bound Mario Gomez.
With Edinson Cavani closing in on a switch to PSG, Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is wasting little time in bringing in his replacements.
The Uruguayan international is “days away” from joining the French champions according to their director Leonardo, and as a result Napoli are pressing ahead with their recruitment drive.
It is understood that Real Madrid’s Jose Callejon has all-but sealed his move to Naples, with Benitez explicitly requesting the Spaniard according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Gazzetta report that he will join in a €10m deal, and is expected to be unveiled by the club later this week as they draw closer to an agreement over personal terms and the details of the transfer.
Callejon is expected to be joined be Leandro Damiao, with the Brazilian said to be close to agreeing on a €20m switch from Internacional.
It is believed that the two clubs have been in discussions since January over the transfer, and given Cavani’s expected exit, the path is now clear for the Brazilian international to join up with his new team-mates.
The pink paper again suggest that the move will be made official later this week, although there is still interest in Fiorentina target Mario Gomez.
The German striker is expected to clinch a move to Florence after being deemed expendable by the treble-winners, however Napoli owner Aurelio de Laurentiis is said to be ready to attempt to hijack the move by offering €18m to Bayern, while offering a salary of €6.5m per year.
Napoli are understandably searching for a striker that can guarantee them goals next season, and while Damiao remains a talent that has been monitored by clubs around Europe, Gomez appears to still be the priority.
