Spaniard may be forced to leave after Mourinho snub.
Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is preparing to rescue Juan Mata from his Chelsea nightmare according to reports in the English media.
The midfielder has struggled to work his way into Jose Mourinho’s plans this season, and was again left out of the squad to face Fulham at the weekend.
As a result, speculation has insisted that the Spaniard may be set to leave the club in the January transfer window, with Benitez reportedly keen on a reunion in Naples.
According to the Sunday Mirror, the Spanish tactician will make his move in the New Year with the hope of adding the 25-year-old to his already impressive squad.
The Partenopei have started the season well, winning all three of their opening Serie A games as well as their Champions League clash with Dortmund.
Having already signed the likes of Pepe Reina, Raul Albiol and Jose Callejon, there has undoubtedly been a Spanish revolution since Benitez was appointed, and Mata may well be the latest compatriot to join forces with the former Chelsea boss.
Mourinho explained his reasons for ignoring the World Cup winner since his return to the club this past summer, revealing that he doesn’t fit in with the way his likes to set his team up.
Despite calls from supporters and pundits alike for the Spanish ace to start, it is unlikely that Mourinho will change his opinion and therefore it makes the Napoli switch a realistic proposition.
However, with Marek Hamsik starting the season in great form, it remains to be seen how Benitez will fit Mata into his side.
