On-loan Liverpool star delighted with settling in process.
Napoli goalkeeper Pepe Reina has revealed that he feels “invigorated” by his summer move to Serie A and is loving life in Naples.
The Spaniard is currently on loan with the Azzurri for the season, and has impressed thus far after being reunited with former boss Rafa Benitez.
Napoli have made a bright start to the season despite the disappointing draw in mid-week against struggling Sassuolo, but Reina believes that there is a bright future ahead for the club.
Speaking about his personal situation, the 31-year-old couldn’t be happier with how his family have settled in the city and has drawn plenty of comparisons with former club Liverpool.
“It is such an important one for me with the World Cup around the corner and returning to the top flight, playing in the Champions League and fighting for the title, is something I have missed in the last two or three years,” he told the Daily Mail according to Football Italia.
“I’m happy to be back at this level. I never expected it, but it’s been a great decision. I feel invigorated by the move.”
While Reina also believes that Napoli are perhaps one of the healthiest clubs in Europe along with Dortmund, he has been amazed by the notoriously passionate supporters since his arrival.
“It’s been a magnificent welcome. It’s been brilliant. My family have adapted well to Napoli. The kids in the school are happy and my wife is making some friends. It is very similar to Liverpool.
“It is a humble city and very, very passionate about the team. It is almost a religion, like in Liverpool. That’s always brilliant for the players. It is a positive pressure. It is a healthy club, that’s for sure.”
The Azzurri have received plaudits for their work both on and off the pitch, with owner Aurelio De Laurentiis ensuring that despite the need to strengthen the squad, the club has maintained its position as a profitable business.
With hopes of a Scudetto this season, the southern giants will hope that the likes of Reina and his fellow summers signings can also impress in the Champions League with a clash against Arsenal coming up next week.
