German international expected to leave the Allianz this summer.
Napoli are ready to switch their attention to Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez, as Edinson Cavani nears an exit, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
It is understood that PSG have notified the Partenopei of their willingness to offer his €63m release clause fee, thus paving the way for a move to France for the Uruguayan international.
As a result, boss Rafa Benitez must now begin the process of identifying an able replacement, and that search initially took him to Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko.
However, as Gomez’s move to Fiorentina continues to stall, it is believed that Napoli are prepared to enter the race for the 27-year-old, and will re-invest the money that they receive for Cavani.
The Viola are close to agreeing a deal, but there is still some confusion over the valuation of the striker, as Bayern are reportedly looking for €20m for the German.
Until now, Fiorentina have only been willing to pay within €15-18m, but it remains to be seen whether or not Napoli’s interest spurs them into action.
It is understood that Vincenzo Montella is awaiting developments on the future of Stevan Jovetic, who is still pushing for a move away from Florence.
However, with Juventus dropping their interest after signing Carlos Tevez and revealing “poor relations” between the two clubs, it is uncertain where Jovetic will go this summer.
Nevertheless, what is clear is that Pep Guardiola is willing to part company with Gomez ahead of next season, and a switch to Italy still looks most likely.
