Argentinian still adored in Naples.
Napoli legend Diego Maradona has received birthday wishes from his former club as he turned 53 on Wednesday.
The Argentinian icon remains a hero in Naples after helping the club to their only two Scudetti in 1987 and 1990 respectively and dazzled the San Paolo for years after his arrival from Barcelona.
Having enjoyed a special relationship with both the supporters and the city aside from the success, he continues to be loved by the club and recently returned to Italy to attend their game against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico.
“October 30 is always a special day,” the club wrote on their official Twitter account.
Meanwhile, club president Aurelio De Laurentiis also took to the social media website to send his best wishes to the former star.
Tanti auguri Diego. Sono 53 anni di storia importante. Ne verranno altri altrettanto esaltanti #ADL

“Many happy returns Diego, these are 53 years of important history. Others just as exciting will arrive,” he stated.
The 1986 World Cup winner admitted earlier this month that he would love the opportunity to coach the club at some stage in the future, but only when Rafa Benitez departs having only just joined this past summer.
The Spaniard has begun his tenure in impressive fashion despite setbacks in recent weeks, and will look to lead the Azzurri to a long-awaited Scudetto this season.
As a result, it may be some time before the opportunity arises for Maradona, although he also conceded that it may be difficult for him to find another coaching role considering club owners are perhaps scared of him in that he will perhaps not be willing to accept orders.
