Bosnian has only been warming the subs’ bench in the north west of late.
Napoli will shift their focus to unwanted Manchester City front man Edin Dzeko should they fail in their bid to land first-choice striking target Stevan Jovetic from Serie A rivals Fiorentina this summer, according to reports in the Daily Express.
The giant Bosnia and Herzegovina international has been at Eastlands for the past two-and-a-half seasons now, having originally been brought to the north west by previous City head coach Roberto Mancini from Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg for £27 million in Jan 2011.
However, it is fair to say that in the intervening period the 27-year-old has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at City, featuring in just 106 matches in all competitions for the club during that time, scoring an impressive 40 goals in the process, including an equally eye-catching 14 strikes in only his 31 Premier League outings.
And now new Napoli boss Rafa Benitez is understood to be keen to bring the tall attacker to southern Italy this summer if as now looks likely the Italians miss out on landing No 1 attacking target Jovetic.
