Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has pulled no punches after being snubbed for the NBA All-Star Game 2015 by not even being named as a reserve.
Lillard is scoring 21.7 points per game and dishing out 6.1 assists as one of the two leaders for the third best team in the Western Conference with the Blazers also having the fourth best record in the NBA.
However, despite improving his game on both ends of the court this season, Lillard was left out of the All-Star squad as fans didn’t vote him in as a starter nor did the coaches include him as a reserve.
The 24-year-old received his third snub when commissioner Adam Silver chose DeMarcus Cousins to replace the injured Kobe Bryant.
As a result, Lillard has made no secret of the fact that he is frustrated and is ready to let that out on the court against his opponents in a positive way.
“I just felt disrespected,” Lillard told reporters, “because I play the game the right way. I play unselfishly. I play for my team to win games and I produce at a high level. I think what I bring to the game as a person, my make-up mentally, how I am towards my teammates, how I am towards the media, how I am towards fans, I think what an All-Star represents in this league and what you would want people to look at as an All-Star, I think I make up all those things.”
However, he wasn’t done there either as after venting to the media, Lillard had a few more choice words on Instagram but has since deleted the post.
“I just want to thank the coaches who feel I wasn’t good enough, the fans that didn’t think I was good enough , and Adam Silver also for not thinking I was good enough. This isn’t unfamiliar territory for me , it’s actually what my life has been inspired by.
“I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed or that I don’t feel disrespected but it’s not too much to handle. Not the first or last guy to be snubbed. “You should have been there” isn’t good enough for me. But anyway, The reason I’m in these shoes is because I’ve always use the hand I was dealt to my advantage… A wise man once told me… ” it ain’t always gone be peaches and cream but somebody has to pay for the reason it’s not … One way or another ” … #ImThankful #Real #NonAllStar #RipCity #YellowTape
Silver revealed that the reason he chose Cousins was because he was the next highest in the coach voting, but that will matter little to Lillard who looks set to be on a mission for the rest of the season.
