Point guard set to be on many team’s shopping list come draft night.
Having signed with Kobe Bryant’s agent and spoken of his love for the Los Angeles Lakers, it seems Dante Exum’s heart is only heading one place in the NBA draft.
The Melbourne-born point guard has attracted plenty of attention for his efforts with his performances at the FIBA Under-19 World Championships where he averaged 18.2 points and 3.8 assists.
Looking more like a Derrick Rose or a Russell Westbrook in terms of being a scoring point guard than a “pass first” set-up man, Exum could find his long-term home in the NBA at shooting guard, as he looks to make the his slashing style and decent range.
“Exum has been working out in Los Angeles in preparation for the draft. There have been reports that Exum, who is represented by Kobe Bryant’s agent, Rob Pelinka, may be angling for the Lakers to draft him. But two executives from lottery teams said that wouldn’t stop them from drafting Exum if he’s available. Scouts rave about the Australian’s natural talent. Exum can play both guard spots, but his long-term future is likely at shooting guard,” Chris Mannix said
Despite the Lakers continuing to struggle and with with loss moving closer to more ping pong balls in the upcoming draft, the team might have its eye on one of the big four, that look set to be drafted higher than Exum, as the 18-year-old is still a work in progress when compared to many other players who are tipped to go early in the first round.
