The Timberwolves have the opportunity to add yet another top prospect to their roster as they continue to put together a team full of young talent with the likes of Ricky Rubio, Andrew Wiggins and Zach LaVine forming the core.
However, the big focus will be on both the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks who have the second and fourth overall picks respectively on Thursday.
Both franchises have gone through difficult times over the past year or so, and whether they decide to trade their pick or use it to acquire a future cornerstone will have a huge impact on their future.
Neither team can afford to get this wrong, and so the pressure will certainly be on their respective front offices to make the right decision and to do the best thing for the organisation moving forward.
The general expectation is that former Kentucky star Karl-Anthony Towns will be selected with the first overall pick by the Timberwolves, which in turn will leave Jahlil Okafor on the board for the Lakers to select.
Point guard D’Angelo Russell will be next as he will head to the Philadelphia 76ers, while top European prospect Kristaps Porzingis has been heavily linked with a move to the Knicks.
Whether or not the Latvian starlet heads to New York is still up for debate, and much will depend on whether or not there is any movement or trade deals made before the clock starts.
If it isn’t Porzingis, then Emmanuel Mudiay is another strong possibility for the Knicks which will in turn leave the Orlando Magic to select whichever player is still on the board.
It promises to be an intriguing night at the Barclays Center, as the latest Draft class find out where they will be heading to start their NBA career.
