The draw will take place in Manhattan, with 14 teams hoping to secure the top pick in the NBA Draft 2015 which takes place next month on June 23 in Brooklyn.
The odds for each respective team have been calculated below based on their final position in the standings this season, although there are certain scenarios where teams will lose their pick.
The Philadelphia 76ers will get the Los Angeles Lakers pick if it should fall to sixth or seventh, and while the Sixers would also get the Miami Heat’s pick if it falls outside the top 10.
However, the general process of how it works remains the same with 14 balls entered into the lottery machine, with balls being selected at regular intervals which will in turn reveal which team has which pick.
Odds for each team to win the No.1 pick in tonight’s lottery are as follows:
Minnesota Timberwolves – 25%
New York Knicks – 19.9%
Philadelphia 76ers – 15.6%
Los Angeles Lakers – 11.9%
Orlando Magic – 8.8%
Sacramento Kings – 6.3%
Denver Nuggets – 4.3%
Detroit Pistons – 2.8%
Charlotte Hornets – 1.7%
Miami Heat – 1.1%
Indiana Pacers – 0.8%
Utah Jazz – 0.7%
Phoenix Suns – 0.6%
Oklahoma City Thunder – 0.5%
The process of the Draft lottery has been heavily criticised by fans in the past who claim that it is rigged by the league to ensure that the team that they believe requires the pick most will receive it. As a result, it will be interesting to see who comes out with the top pick with big markets like New York and Los Angeles desperately needing some luck to rebuild their rosters this summer.
