Riley finds LeBron exit shocking: Heat president still can’t believe James left.
James opted to return to Cleveland despite leading the Heat to four straight NBA Finals in his four years with the franchise and after winning two championships.
The 30-year-old decided to return to his hometown team and help them end their long wait for a title but many were undoubtedly left shocked by his decision considering how well set Miami were with the ‘Big Three’ to go for several more championship runs.
While that decision appears to have paid off as the Cavs look set for the post-season and are regarded as favourites by many, Mourning still can’t get his head around the decision to leave Miami as he praised the culture created by team president Pat Riley.
“I find it very difficult for individuals like we had to stop buying into the culture that got you four straight NBA Finals appearances,” he said in an interview with SLAM.
“How do you stop buying into that? If you got there four years in a row, why not get back there four more times? And then four more times? Why not get back there 10 years in a row? It’s doable. And Pat Riley wasn’t gonna stop bringing pieces in to complement, you know? So why walk away from a dynasty?”
Mourning added that he believes Cavs star Kevin Love isn’t happy this season and is “outta there” after he opted to join James in Cleveland from the Minnesota Timberwolves.
It hasn’t gone exactly to plan for the power forward even though the Cavs continue to win, and with free agency coming up at the end of the season he may well consider his options elsewhere regardless of whether or not he wins a ring this year.
