New York Knicks star Carmelo Anthony has criticised the level of effort that the team are showing this season as they continue to struggle to find wins.
The Knicks are currently 4-14 for the season and after all the changes this summer, they have struggled to find consistency with the triangle offense while injuries have also been detrimental to their attempt at building chemistry.
Anthony has struggled with back spasms over the past week and things didn’t improve in his absence on the court as Amar’e Stoudemire called out the team for their lack of effort.
New York have now lost four straight overall and Anthony agreed with his teammate’s assessment of their recent performances.
“He has his opinion,” Anthony said. “Sometimes we go out there and it’s like we don’t want to be out there. We’re not giving effort like we’re supposed to. As leader of the team, he had the right to step up to the plate.”
Nevertheless, effort is only one of the problems that the franchise is facing, and first-year coach Derek Fisher must start to find the answers sooner rather than later even if his position is under no immediate threat.
The Philadelphia 76ers, Charlotte Hornets and Detroit Pistons have arguably been more disappointing than the Knicks so far this season, but ultimately team president Phil Jackson would have had higher hopes for them.
In addition, he will arguably be disappointed with the leaders of the team publicly questioning the effort from their teammates, with one of the reasons for his moves in the free agency market being to build better chemistry and spirit within the team.
