Chicago Bulls general manager Gar Forman has insisted that there is no truth behind speculation that coach Tom Thibodeau’s job is currently at risk.
The Bulls have slumped in recent weeks as they have now lost six of their last eight games and they are ranked with the 26th worst defense in the NBA during that stretch.
As a result, given his previous issues with the front office, there has been speculation that Thibodeau could be at risk of losing his job as rumours circulate that he has lost the locker room with his ‘hardcore’ methods.
However, Forman squashed it immediately with a text to the Sun Times when he was asked directly over whether there had been any discussions regarding Thibodeau’s job security and future.
“No. It’s not a story,” he replied.
Thibodeau himself insisted that he “couldn’t care less” about the reports when asked by the media, while Pau Gasol defended his coach by insisting that practices aren’t as hard as people think they are and that the players need to start being more positive with each other.
It is still early in the season and the Bulls are expected to ultimately secure a high seeding in the Eastern Conference, but the questions would start if they crash out of the playoffs early as many have tipped them to at least make the Conference Finals this year.
With the threat from the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards and Toronto Raptors, coupled with the Cleveland Cavaliers finding their rhythm, that is easier said than done. However, Thibodeau won’t be thinking that far ahead as he looks to get his team back on track in the more immediate future.
