Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James has insisted that he feels as good as he has felt all season after returning from a two-week injury layoff.
The Cavs went 2-3 on their West Coast trip but James returned for the final three games after recovering from back and knee strains and missing eight games with the issues.
James made 34 of 65 shots (52.3 percent) with 33.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game against the Suns, Lakers and Clippers and he insists that he feels great after taking time out to heal up.
“I know, for me personally, [the two-week layoff] helped me out a lot,” said James, whose Cavs play the Bulls on Monday.
“I’ve felt better in the last three games than I did the whole season, the whole 30-plus games that I appeared in. We’ve had a 2-1 record since I’ve been back, so hopefully we can continue on that path.”
Cleveland (21-20) finished the trip with back-to-back wins after going 1-7 without James, and they will hope that he can maintain his current form and help them start to climb the Eastern Conference standings while silencing the critics along the way.
Coach David Blatt has been hit with crippling injuries in his first season in charge after losing Anderson Varejao for the season with a torn Achilles, while the likes of James, Kevin Love, Shawn Marion, Iman Shumpert (yet to make his debut), have all struggled with their own injury problems.
Blatt called the road trip a success as he believes that the team made progress in various aspects, and he will hope that it is the start of happier times at the franchise.
