Portland Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard has replaced Los Angeles Clippers star Blake Griffin on the Western Conference All-Star roster.
Griffin was ruled out of the game on February 15 after it was announced that he required surgery on his elbow, and so a new selection was required from commissioner Adam Silver.
Having conceded that he felt disappointed and disrespected after initially being snubbed by both the fan vote and then the coaches choices for the reserves, Lillard has finally made his way into the team and will travel to New York next weekend.
It is a deserved call-up for the 24-year-old who is averaging 21.6 points, 6.3 assists and 4.6 rebounds per game so far this season as the Blazers continue to battle for a spot in the top four in the West.
In addition to his displays on the court, Lillard insisted that he felt as though he represents what an All-Star should be all about with his work off the court too and undoubtedly took it personally when he was snubbed.
It remains to be seen whether or not his mood on the situation improves after it took an injury to Griffin to get him to the game, but he will certainly relish the opportunity to prove that he belongs there when the game is held at Madison Square Garden next Sunday.
Damian Lillard is now a 2-time all-star.
