The 26-year-old has developed his game significantly over the past two years and has become an integral part of Doc Rivers’ team this season.
Jordan is averaging 11.3 points, 14.7 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game this year, and he is widely regarded as one of the front-runners for the Defensive Player of the Year award.
However, he is also set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, and there is likely to be no shortage of interest from teams around the league looking to secure his signature.
The Clippers have been considered the favourites to re-sign him, but judging by his latest comments, he intends on enjoying the experience and seeing what else is out there.
“I mean I’ve obviously been here seven years, and the past two have been great,” said Jordan, according to Real GM.
“Doc (Rivers) has been my biggest supporter and the best coach I’ve ever had. The team is great. The guys are great. We have great camaraderie. But the free agency process is definitely going to be a fun one.”
While this shouldn’t worry Clippers fans too much given that Carmelo Anthony said a similar thing last summer before re-signing with the New York Knicks on a max deal, it does suggest that they will need to offer Jordan something significant in order to persuade him to stay.
The Clippers center was particularly productive during Blake Griffin’s injury lay-off, and it remains to be seen whether or not the pair can now lead the team on a deep playoff run.
