Sacramento Kings center DeMarcus Cousins was admitted to hospital on Wednesday as he continues to struggle with a viral infection.
Cousins has missed the last three games, all losses, with the illness and has therefore been put in hospital to continue to receive treatment and rest as he recovers from the infection.
The Kings announced on Wednesday that the 24-year-old will not be in uniform when Sacramento hosts the Indiana Pacers on Friday or against the Orlando Magic on Saturday.
Cousins underwent evaluation on Tuesday evening and although it is understood that he is improving on a daily basis, he is not expected to make a full recovery until next week as he looks ahead to re-joining the team who have struggled in his absence.
The Kings center is averaging career highs of 23.5 points, 12.6 rebounds and 1.5 blocks so far this season but Sacramento have now lost four straight games after an impressive 9-5 start to the season had experts talking about a possible surprise playoff push.
While the likes of Rudy Gay and Darren Collison continue to lead the team, Sacramento are undoubtedly missing their big presence in the frontcourt and will be desperate to see Cousins make a full recovery sooner rather than later.
On a personal level, the Kings star will be hopeful that the infection doesn’t disrupt what had been a positive start to the season and that he is able to pick up from where he left off after shining in the FIBA World Cup in Spain this past summer.
Aside from his improved play on the court, Cousins appears to have matured too and that has been a key part of his success so far this year.
