Mirotic earned himself a flagrant-one foul in Thursday’s Game 6 clash at the United Center in Chicago, after he clotheslined Shumpert as the Cavs star breezed past him and was headed for the basket for an easy lay-up.
While things remained calm on the court after that, Shumpert responded by hitting a three to start the process of Cleveland dominating and ultimately embarrassing their rivals.
The Cavs will now go on to play the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Finals next week, while the Bulls have plenty of questions to answer with speculation that coach Tom Thibodeau could be on his way out.
However, the situation between Shumpert and Mirotic rumbled on in the locker room, as the former, a Chicago native, questioned whether the rookie knew what he was getting himself into.
“That dude better be cool. I’m from here. I got my family here and everything. He wants to get out safe, don’t he?” Shumpert said in the locker room to his teammates, according to Cleveland.com.
While the rest of the team broke into laughter, LeBron James responded by insisting that Mirotic perhaps didn’t know that Shumpert was from Chicago.
The assumption is that Shumpert was merely joking, but the idea isn’t particularly what anyone wants to hear from an NBA player with so many youngsters listening in.
