Cleveland Cavaliers star Kevin Love has responded to speculation linking him with a move to the Los Angeles Lakers in free agency by insisting: “I’m a Cleveland Cavalier”.
Love has the option of opting out of his contract this summer and becoming a free agent, and previous speculation has suggested that he could be keen on a return to LA.
The 26-year-old played college basketball at UCLA and has been linked with a move to the Lakers throughout his career in the NBA. However, he sounded fairly certain that he knows his future lies in Cleveland according to LA Daily News writer Mark Medina on Twitter.
‘Would Lakers be an option for Kevin Love this summer? Love: “I’m a Cleveland Cavalier.” Any scenario where Love would join the Lakers? Love: “No.”‘
Given that the Cavs have now won 12 of their last 13 games, it is fair to say that Love would be a lot happier about settling in the city after their initial problems appear to have been overcome.
The former Minnesota Timberwolves star has struggled on an individual level at times, but with LeBron James and Kyrie Irving along side him in pursuit of championships, a move back to LA can wait for now.
Nevertheless, it is expected that he will not sign a long-term deal this summer as he looks to factor in the introduction of the NBA’s new mega-money TV deal.
With the salary cap set to dramatically rise, Love will have his business cap on and look ahead to getting a much better deal/money in 2016.
