Love confirmed that he would be returning to the Cavs line-up on Wednesday night against the Brooklyn Nets after missing the last two outings with the team.
Initial reports suggested that it was a move to give him time to rest his back injury which has been troubling him for some time, but he revealed that he was left out to rest his entire body.
“Me resting had nothing to do with my back,” Love said Wednesday morning, as reported by ESPN.
“Coach (David Blatt) had approached me. I was playing heavy minutes and he came to me and asked if I’d sit a game or two and that’s all it was.”
The 26-year-old missed games in December and January due to back spasms, and he recently insisted that his priority was to get himself fully healthy ahead of the playoffs.
Coach David Blatt appeared to agree with him although there is some confusion over who went to who with the plan of resting as both men had their own version of events.
Nevertheless, Love insists that he has benefited from the time away from the court and feels refreshed, so now he will be hoping to overcome his issues on the court with discord over his role on the team.
The former Minnesota Timberwolves star is averaging 16.8 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season, but he recently reiterated that he isn’t a stretch four and wants more touches in the post rather then being out on the perimeter for large portions of games.
