Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James says they “aren’t a very good team” after their disappointing 23-point loss to the Detroit Pistons on Sunday.
The Cavs were outplayed for large stretches of Sunday’s encounter with the Pistons going on an 18-0 run in the second quarter to move beyond them.
James was less than impressed with his team’s performance as they also struggled without the injured pair of Kyrie Irving and Anderson Varejao.
While Irving is expected back this week, Varejao has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a torn Achilles, and so the Cavaliers will be eager to bring in a big before the February deadline.
“We’re not a very good team,” James said after the defeat dropped the Cavs to 18-12.
“As far as on the court, we’re still trying to find our way as well. We’ve won some good games, we’ve lost some games. But right now, we’re just not very good in every aspect of the game that we need to be to compete every night.”
The Cavs’ past three home losses have all come by 17 points or more and it was so bad against Detroit that they were booed off the court by their own fans.
James conceded that the team isn’t playing “nowhere near championship ball” despite their 18-12 record for the season, and they will need to improve in various aspects of their overall game if they are to challenge in the Eastern Conference for a top seeding.
Kevin Love shared James’ assessment by insisting that they must improve at home in particular, while coach David Blatt conceded that he was also to blame for their failures.
