LeBron James has insisted that Kobe Bryant is “one of, if not the greatest scorers” in NBA history as he closes in on surpassing Michael Jordan.
Bryant edged closer to Jordan on Friday night after scoring 22 points in the win over the San Antonio Spurs, and he now needs just eight more points to tie Jordan for third place on the career scoring list.
He will now have to wait until he faces the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday to surpass the Hall of Famer, but LeBron had kind words for his friend and rival.
LeBron on Kobe nearing MJ: “It’s not surprising. He’s one of, if not the greatest scorer our game has ever seen”.
More LeBron on Kobe: “He’s one of the guys that I looked up to … Going straight from high school to the NBA he was on my wall”.
Bryant insisted that he was pleased with the effect that his rant at practice earlier this week had on his teammates, and it seemingly fired them up to defeat the reigning NBA champions.
The Lakers veteran suggested that they were soft in practice as he returned to join them for the first time in a month, but he didn’t apologise for his approach and he believes that it works given his track record of success both individually and collectively.
Nevertheless, it was an important win for the Lakers, and history awaits Bryant as he looks ahead to the trip to Minnesota on Sunday.
