Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James has revealed that he would be willing to come off the bench during games if it helps the team win.
The Cavs are currently on an 11-game winning streak and James has insisted that he is ready to make any sacrifices necessary to ensure that they continue on their current trajectory.
“It’s all about the team and for me being the leader of the team, it doesn’t matter. Whatever this team needs in order for us to win, I’ll come off the bench. I’m serious. I’ll come off the bench,” James told reporters.
“If it helps our team, that’s what it’s about, man.
“It’s about a team and how we all fit together, how the five guys on the court fit together, how the eight guys or 10 guys on the bench all help the guys that are on the floor and so on and so on. So, sacrifice is the biggest word in team sports, but it’s not about saying it. It’s about doing it, as well. It’s about living it.”
James’ comments were undoubtedly merely figurative in the sense that he was just suggesting the level of sacrifice that he would be willing to make even though it is completely unlikely to ever happen.
The 12-year veteran has only ever come off the bench once in his career and that was back in 2007 in a home win over the Indiana Pacers after he made his return from a finger injury and gradually worked his way back to full health before being restored back into the starting line-up.
Nevertheless, despite the unlikelihood of James coming off the bench, Cavs coach David Blatt was left impressed with his “champion” and he reiterated that the 30-year-old just wants the team and his teammates to do well and that was never a bad thing.
After their early struggles, it appears as though Blatt, James and the rest of the Cavs are finally starting to sing off the same hymn sheet.
