Lin has struggled in LA since arriving last summer and has not had the desired impact, and coach Byron Scott hasn’t been afraid of publicly sharing where he needs to improve.
However, Young has now entered the conversation and provided some advice, the only issue being that it isn’t exactly advice that he can preach given that he rarely dishes out the assists himself.
“I know it’s his contract year, but he could’ve focused on passing a little bit more,” Young said of Lin, according to Los Angeles Daily News.
“Especially when Kobe was out there, [Jeremy] needed to drop dimes.”
Scott has insisted throughout the year that he isn’t trying to teach his players anything new and that he merely wants them to use their basketball IQ to make the best decisions when on the court.
Regardless, the Lakers have struggled with injuries and lack of talent this year and it is no surprise that they are on course to battle it out to avoid finishing bottom of the Western Conference.
While Young’s constructive criticism is certainly a good point in terms of Lin’s overall play, it is difficult to take it seriously given that it is ‘Swaggy P’ telling him what to do.
Lin will likely be looking for a new team in the summer as the Lakers look to rebuild with their significant salary cap space allowing them to make big moves in free agency.
