Los Angeles Lakers rookie Julius Randle will undergo foot surgery too after he was ruled out for the rest of the season with a broken leg.
Randle broke his leg just 14 minutes into his NBA debut on the opening night of the season in a hugely disappointing and unfortunate moment for both the player and team.
The 20-year-old has been in rehabilitation since and is said to be making good progress in his recovery as he comes to terms with the frustration of missing his first season in the league.
However, the Lakers medical staff have taken the opportunity to clean up and repair an old high-school injury in his foot while he sits out.
“Lakers forward Julius Randle will undergo surgery on Tuesday morning to replace the screw in his fifth metatarsal of his right foot,” an official statement from the franchise read.
“The surgery will be performed by Dr. David Thordarson of the Cedars-Sinai Orthopaedic Center.”
The Lakers drafted Randle with the seventh overall pick out of Kentucky last year, and while he was unable to showcase his skills and talent for long, the organisation believe that he will grow into a key piece on the roster in the coming years.
Nevertheless, in the more immediate future he will be determined to recover from his injuries and put in a solid pre-season ahead of what will hopefully be an injury-free second year in the NBA.
