Miami Heat forward Luol Deng has responded to remarks made by Atlanta Hawks general manager Danny Ferry about having a “little African in him”.
Ferry made the alleged comments in a conference call with team owners, and with the entire organisation under pressure to not only find new owners but also to fire Ferry, it is a testing time for the Hawks as a whole as they had hoped to build on the success of last season.
It is suggested that Ferry said of Deng; “he has a little African in him. Not in a bad way, but he’s like a guy who would have a nice store out front but sell you counterfeit stuff out the back.”
Deng, whom Atlanta pursued in free agency earlier this year, opted to sign for the Heat, and he has now responded to the comments made about him in an official statement..

It is widely expected that this latest scandal in the NBA will likely drag on for a number of weeks, and it is undoubtedly another blow for NBA Commissioner Adam Silver who will have to deal with another controversial matter just weeks after Donald Sterling’s case with the Los Angeles Clippers was concluded.
Nevertheless, it remains to be seen what decisions are made by the Hawks moving forward, with real momentum building behind the push for Ferry to be fired for his comments.
