Police responded to a call at TD Garden on Wednesday night while the victim was taken to the Massachusetts General Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening according to a police spokesman.
Officers responded to an incident shortly before 10 p.m. according to the report, while a Celtics spokeswoman confirmed that the altercation had taken place.
“I can confirm there was an altercation and a person was transferred [to a hospital]”, she announced, according to the Boston Globe.
No further details were released on the incident but it certainly raises questions over the security at the arena if a knife was smuggled through.
While it is still early in the investigation, this may be cause for the NBA to review its search process as supporters enter arenas around the country, as ultimately this is a shocking case that will cause anxiousness in front offices up and down the league.
On the court, the Celtics claimed a significant win over the Grizzlies as they continue their pursuit of a playoff spot, but the unsavoury news coming from off the court has certainly overshadowed their achievement.
It remains to be seen whether or not the victim makes a full recovery, but the hope is that they do and the Celtics can help the authorities catch the guilty party and in turn aid the NBA in potentially reviewing the current security protocols.
