Memphis Grizzlies star Marc Gasol has revealed that he will consider all his options this summer as he is set to become an unrestricted free agent.
Gasol has emerged as a legitimate MVP contender this season as he leads the Grizzlies towards a comfortable playoff finish in the Western Conference, but his long-term future remains uncertain.
The Spaniard is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and he insists that no decision has been made yet and he will consider all offers that he receives.
The 29-year-old will receive a max contract where ever he lands, but he can receive an extra year of compensation by re-signing with Memphis.
“I haven’t weighed anything yet,” said Gasol, who will wait until talking with his agent, Arn Tellum, this offseason. “We’ll sit down and have a human eye-to-eye conversation. We’ll see what we’re looking for the next four or five years of my life with this team, different teams and my family. Whatever decision I make, it would be the best.”
Will the Lakers become one of those candidates?
“I won’t say no to anything right now,” Gasol said in an interview with Los Angeles News Group. “If it’s presented to me, I’ll think about it. If not, I won’t.”
The Lakers will have the cap space required to sign Gasol to a max four-year deal, but it remains difficult for them to attract top names despite their prestige and history given the struggles that they are currently going through in terms of rebuilding the roster.
With Kobe Bryant expected to retire at the end of next season, Gasol will need to see a long-term plan at the organisation before deciding to leave Memphis, with the Grizzlies guaranteed to be a perennial contender in a stacked Western Conference.
